Childrens Dentist Alphington & Fairfield
At Alphington Dental Care we believe that children should visit the dentist from an early age. We want to foster positive associations so that your child will be familiar and comfortable visiting the clinic. Tooth decay in children is a common problem but it can be prevented through diet and oral hygiene practices. Our staff can help by providing advice for you and your family about how to keep your children’s teeth healthy. We have seen that children who develop good habits from an early age have better lifetime outcomes for their oral health.
At Alphington Dental Care we encourage children to play and explore during their visit. Your child will enjoy “going for a ride” in the dental chair and taking “a prize” home with them. We also have plenty of toys, colouring sheets and books available so you are welcome to bring along their siblings. Every positive experience helps to make the process of visiting the dentist easier for everyone.
Preventive Sealants
When teeth first erupt the chewing surfaces are highly susceptible to developing decay. As we grow older the enamel matures by absorbing minerals from the saliva. A proven method for reducing tooth decay during this period is to place sealants over the deep grooves of the teeth. This is a non-invasive procedure that will usually last for a few years before gradually wearing down as your child grows up. When we examine your child’s teeth we will assess whether this preventive measure is suitable.
The Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS)
Medicare provides up to $1000 worth of dental care for eligible children. If you are unsure about your child’s eligibility we would be happy to check with Medicare during their first visit. Please discuss the CDBS with our staff when you make an appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. When should a child visit the dentist for the first time?
We recommend bringing your child in when their first tooth appears or around their first birthday. Early visits help familiarise them with the dental environment and support the development of healthy habits.
2. How do you make dental visits enjoyable for children?
We create a friendly environment with toys, colouring sheets, a prize at the end and positive interactions to build trust. We explain each step simply so children feel informed and at ease.
3. Do you participate in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
Yes we bulk bill eligible children under the Children’s Dental Benefits Schedule. This covers up to one thousand dollars over two years for basic dental services such as checkups, sealants, fillings and X rays.
